So we met with the caterer this past Friday, and we made an initial menu. I won't tell you what it is because it's supposed to be a surprise, but just know that it's lots of yummy finger foods! She will also be doing both the wedding cake and the groom's cake. I will be meeting with her again some time in January so she can come by and see The Library Ballroom, where we will be having our reception. I have to say a big "thank you" to my wonderful mother, who unflinchingly paid the 1/3 deposit on the catering - not a small amount, I must say.
Next on the list is calling my dress shop to make sure my gown has been ordered, to book the musician, and to setup follow-up appointments with all my vendors after the New Year. The groom and I also need to start seriously thinking about getting invitations and registering for gifts sometime soon.
My MOH and I already have some great ideas for sweet goodies to adorn the tables, and I have been picking up little decorative things here and there for a more personal touch at our reception.

A New Resource
A local television station and a new bridal magazine has teamed up to make an awesome resource for middle Georgia brides: Wedding Belles Magazine. They have teamed up with 13WMAZ and will be launching a new website in January '09 and sending out their first issue in April '09.
Those photos look familiar you say? Well, they are from the photographer that I talked about back here. And guess what? I met her yesterday! Actually I did a lot yesterday, so let me start at the beginning...
At 10:00 I met with the wedding planner to discuss my reception hall contract and make sure it was everything we wanted. This reception is turning difficult since no one had dealt with them before, and so no one quite knows what to expect. We also talked about my meeting with the photographer as well as my meeting with the woman who will be facilitating all my rentals and making all my floral arrangements. We went over who was in the wedding party, and we talked about how many people we will be inviting since I have lowered the number some since our last meeting.
Then I met my MOH for some lunch and we hit the road again at 1:00 to go meet with Jenny Evelyn, my definite choice for my wedding photography. I will get with her again at the beginning of the year to give her my deposit. I think I was hooked when I called her and she was just so happy and cheery and excited about her work. She will fit right in with my hyper wedding planner, and my super-happy rental lady.
Speaking of super-happy rental lady - mom, Morgan, and I all met with Carmen, who works for a company in Thomaston Georgia. They have their own greenhouse, where they grow all of their rental products, including trees, wheat grass, flowers, and potted plants. She also facilitates the rental of linens, as well as furniture and other fun things. She is so great, and always has the best attitude. She even gave us hugs instead of a handshake, a true Southern tradition (although I generally like the handshake, being the business freak that I am). Apparently, she's been in Southern Living a couple of times, but you would never know it because of how down-to-earth she is. You can tell she just really loves her job.
The last person I have to meet is my caterer. I will be employing all females apparently - lol. Overall, I've had a very productive week. I even finally got out my engagement invitations! I don't want to think about wedding anything all weekend.

Wedding Crashing
I got so much done this weekend it's ridiculous. I'm not sure how I found time to do it all.
My MOH and I started Friday night with a trip to Dillard's to find the right Spanx to try on dresses with. I figured a simple pantyhose type body shaper would be perfect. Yeah, perfect until I looked at the price tag - $72! I'll have to save up for that purchase, so I'll stick with the corset bra for now. We also went by our new Ulta store and checked on professional makeup prices. They only charge $30 for a full makeover! Wow! I was so surprised. That will allow me to go ahead of time and let them do a trial run before the big day too.
Then Saturday, after my morning workout with the groom, we ran down to the dress shop where I tried on my first dresses so I could show my MOH the one that I particularly liked. I wish I could find a picture of it online, but I have failed so far. And of course, I never remember to take a picture of me in the thing when I have it on. Duh. After that, we crashed a wedding at the Blacksmith Shop that my planner had invited us to view. I was afraid I might be disappointed about not getting the space, but I wasn't - thank goodness. It was a lovely place, but it wasn't quite right for me. I viewed (and tasted) the handiwork of the cater, including some yummy pork loin. She also made the wedding cake, and it was just perfect too! I also took note of the awesome florist that was putting together huge, gorgeous centerpieces (Click to enlarge).
While we were there, she was busily hanging lit candles into the largest arrangements. She rents them (I know! Neat!), so that way you don't have all these flowers left over with nowhere to go.
After that, we stopped by a local boutique owned by a friend. Connected to the boutique is a little stationary shop that has some really great wedding invitation designs. The owner offered to help me get the catalog discounts on her stationary, so I will definitely try to take advantage of that. She also had some amazing wedding photography hanging on the walls and gave me the card to the photographer. I will be calling her, hopefully to meet very soon. Then Sunday after church, I got together with my FMIL and one of my FSILs to go over (what I like to call) their "A-list" for the wedding invites. We managed to keep the numbers decently low so that we can add emergency invites later in the year if necessary or add a few people from the "B-list". Then I introduced my FSIL to my gym, and after a good hour workout, she liked it enough that she may be getting a membership and joining me in my weekly routine. There's nothing like having a workout buddy to keep you motivated!
So now I'm exhausted, and I don't want to think anymore about weddings ever again, but I'm going to truck on through and get these vendors nailed down before I rest for the holidays.

Wedding Budget
So, I've realized what kind of business I should be in.
When did throwing parties start to cost so much???
Although, I guess having all this expense spread out over a whole year will make it seem less bad. So all I want for Christmas is cash and gift cards to Michael's, Kroger, and Target.
*sigh*
Also, the groom and I went to look at that house that was for sale by owner, and I think we decided that it would possibly need a little more work than we could afford. And after talking more about it, we found that it might be in our best interest to rent for a little while, pay down some of our school debt, save up for a down-payment, and let me get situated with a full-time job before we go loan shopping.

The Wedding Nazi
I go to meet with my wedding planner on Thursday for the first time. Hooray!
I call her the "Wedding Nazi" because of how awesome she was at my friend's wedding. She could even get the guys to do what they were supposed to at the rehearsal - no easy task - and that was half the reason I wanted to have her be my planner too.
After we meet, Doug and I are going to tour a house that's for sale. We're hoping to be able to find a house at a good price now that values are low, but if not, we're happy with renting for a while after the wedding until we find a place.

Wedding Planner
I called and booked my wedding planner, Jayne on Wednesday. I had been in a wedding a few summers ago - of a good friend, who is actually going to be in mine (yay!) - and she had used Jayne as her wedding planner. I remember her being pretty calm, and everything went really well and was so gorgeous. I knew I just had to hire her, even if it would help nothing but my sanity.
The whole time, I was in complete awe of how this wonderful wedding Nazi could keep all the giggling girls and nervous, immature boys in line. Jayne remembered me as the little, blonde girl in my friend's wedding, which is really amazing because I know she does a lot of weddings. I can't wait to get started with her (hopefully in the next week or so) and start looking at reception halls.
